Bruce Aitken, is the President & CEO of Methanex Corporation, the world's largest supplier of methanol to major international markets in North America, Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin America. Methanex is a Vancouver-based, publicly traded company engaged in the worldwide production, distribution and marketing of methanol. As President & CEO of Methanex for the past 5 years, Bruce has celebrated many milestones. Methanex has significantly expanded its presence in Asia Pacific. The company's Asia Pacific regional headquarters have been relocated to Hong Kong and its office in Shanghai continues to grow. Methanex entered into a long-term arrangement with China's XinAo Group to participate in a dimethyl ether production facility near Shanghai. In the past few years, Methanex also expanded its terminal in Yeosu, Korea, to ensure better security of supply for the entire Asia Pacific region.
Last year, Methanex announced it is proceeding with a 1.3 million tonne methanol facility in Damietta, Egypt. Construction is now underway with commercial methanol production slated for 2010. In 2005, Methanex celebrated the opening of Chile's fourth methanol plant, making the Chilean site Methanex's largest methanol facility capable of providing almost 12 percent of the world's methanol.
In his presentation to HKCBA, Bruce will share his extensive experience and provide numerous tips on how best to approach the Asia Pacific market. He will also provide insights into the success stories and future trends of Methanex's Asian Growth Strategy.
About the Speaker: An internationally experienced executive, Bruce Aitken has, for nearly 30 years, lived and worked in five different countries on assignments of increasing complexity and seniority. Prior to his current position, he held a variety of positions with Methanex, including President and Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific. In the 1990s, Bruce led a review of Methanex's global organization that evolved into its current operating structure. He was influential in establishing Methanex's core strategies of what are today global leadership, value creation and operational excellence. Prior to joining Methanex, Bruce was Executive Director of Cape Horn Methanol in Santiago, Chile, from 1991 to 1993. From 1979 to 1991, he also held a number of managerial positions with Fletcher Challenge Limited in New Zealand.
