I wish to offer Season's Greetings to all our members and friends of the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association.

We are fortunate to live in Canada where we have a prosperous and open society. We are also blessed to live in a beautiful Province with a very bright future. With the continuing development of the Asia-Pacific economies, Canada and Hong Kong are both well-positioned to participate actively in the economic transformation of Asia. Our Association is very excited about the future for Canada and indeed British Columbia in this "Age of the Asia-Pacific" where business opportunities abound.

Trading with a Giant: an Update on Canada-China Trade (2002 to 2007)
Canada's merchandise exports to China in the first seven months of 2007 have grown at more than twice the pace of its imports on the strength of the Asian giant's demand for Canada's natural resources, according to an article published in the Canadian Economic Observer. China Releases New Catalogue on Foreign Investment in Industry
With State Council approval, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce have jointly released the latest Catalogue for the Guidance of Foreign Investment in Industry recently. The new catalogue, which takes effect on December 1 this year, replaces the 2004 version. Click here to see the full article by HKTDC.

China Agrees to Eliminate Subsidies Challenged by the U.S. at the W.T.O.
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative announced on November 29 that China has agreed to terminate a range of subsidies that were recently challenged by the U.S. and Mexico at the World Trade Organization. The U.S. and China signed a memorandum of understanding on November 20 where Chinese authorities committed to complete by January 1, 2008 a series of steps to ensure that the subsidies cited in the U.S. complaint have been permanently eliminated and are not re-introduced in the future.
