Yuen Pau Woo, is President & Co-CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, a think-tank on the Asia Pacific and Canada-Asia relations.  He is Canada's representative on the Standing Committee of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC), Director of the APEC Study Centre in Canada, and Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Asian Research at the University of British Columbia (UBC). 

In his presentation to HKCBA, Mr. Woo will discuss the results of the Foundation's 2008 national opinion poll on Canadian views on Asia, including issues related to Canada-China/Hong Kong economic and business ties.

About the Speaker:  In addition to the above, Mr. Woo also chairs the PECC Pacific Economic Outlook forecasting panel and is coordinator of the annual State of the Region report.  He is also on the editorial board of Pacific Affairs.  He is on the management boards of National Centres of Excellence in Immigration (UBC and Simon Fraser University) and Emerging Markets (University of Ottawa), and is an advisor to the Shanghai WTO Affairs Consultation Centre and the Asian Development Bank.  He is also on the International Advisory Council of the Asia Society in New York, and a member of the Greater Vancouver Advisory Board of the Salvation Army.

Mr. Woo was born in Malaysia and grew up in Singapore.  He was educated at Lester B. Pearson College, Wheaton College, the University of Cambridge, and the University of London.  Mr. Woo has previously worked as a consultant on international marine affairs and as an economist for the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation.
